Wine Spectator, the prestigious monthly magazine for wine enthusiasts has selected the Highland Lake Inn Restaurant as one of fourteen restaurants across North Carolina to receive their “Award of Excellence” for one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the country. The award recognizes restaurants that offer wines of interest and are a thematic match to the restaurant’s cuisine and style.
The magazine article describes Highland Lake Inn as “Perfect for families as well as romantic vacations, this Flat Rock getaway offers restful nooks and outdoor activities.” Season’s Restaurant is also featured in the article and the collaboration between the head gardener and chefs are highlighted with regard to the onsite organic garden and the seasonally changing menu. The dinner entrée of roasted thyme rack of lamb with wild berry-jasmine rice and grilled vegetables is mentioned as a delightful example of this partnership.

Highland Lake Inn was chosen as the southern representative of a “delightful country inn.” The article describes the numerous activities and accommodations available on the 180 acre property. The article also took care to mention that Highland Lake Inn’s two-acre organic garden provides herbs, vegetables, and edible flowers for use in the restaurant.
